Daily Prayer – 21 October

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. John 1:14–16

Heavenly Father, help us to hear Your Word. Help us come to You with open hearts to the Saviour, Jesus Christ, who leads us into Your loving arms. Hear our prayers and let Your face shine on us. Send a new age, a new salvation to the earth, to glorify of Your name. Show us that what we have learned about You is true and that we may live in that truth and find our way to heaven, to the glory of Your name. Father God, it may at times seem You are far away. But we know that our voices reach You and that your Holy Spirit will encourage us to be your workers for the Lord Jesus. Send your Spirit, Father. Send the Comforter, the Guiding light, who leads us into all truth. We trust ourselves and our daily lives to You. We want to be more faithful each day. Help us, Your children, to remember we belong to you, God. No matter how dark it is, help us remember that You are with us. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Daily Prayer – 19 June

So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 2 Timothy 1:8-9

Heavenly Father and almighty God through, be with us in our difficult and imprisoned times. We will face suffering in the joy and the sharing of the Gospel Christ Jesus, we thank you for Your grace in these times. Strengthen the grace we have received from Jesus Christ, and let the Gospel be known over all the world to honour Your name, everywhere. Bless us, we pray, and let Your blessing spread from us to others. Let Your light shine through us so that others may question where our joy comes from; and we all answer, our joy comes from the Lord. May Your Word come alive in us and in the world. May Your blessing become our actions, for we want to remain under Your blessing, to the glory of Your righteousness and truth. In Jesus Name, Amen.

The Importance of Fellowship

The Cancer of Sin

In this series of posts, we will look at the New Testament book of 1 John. A letter written by John to the church. Through this letter, we can understand that as Christians we can be certain of our salvation and our position before God. We have been forgiven and justified by the Blood of Jesus.

The relationship that we have with our Heavenly Father should be complete joy, whether our relationship is developed in our secret place with Him or in fellowship with others. John tells of barriers that prevent this complete joy with the Father, and these are: our sins, our relational problems with our brothers and sisters, and our enemies—the world and the devil. These are barriers preventing us from enjoying and having a close and intimate relationship with God.

John discusses his explanation about the barriers that can hinder our fellowship with God. One small sin in your life, that you know about, can rob you of your Spiritual vitality and hinder your fellowship with God, similarly to how one small coagulated blob of blood can clog up your arteries and cause you to die. It would not rob you of heaven, but it can rob you of the full, abundant life Jesus wants you to have on earth. And that’s what John is trying to prevent at this point in his letter.

4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 1 John 3:4-6

Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness” – this is the warning regarding the character of sin, the very nature of sin itself. There are no sins considered “lesser” or “worse” than another. Sin is sin. The pleasures enjoyed in the flesh by sin is a fatal poison to your Spiritual life. As human beings, we tend to down play sin, make excuses, say things like “but this is my only vice”, but it is crystal clear – sin is wicked.

But there is good news! In 1 John 3:5, sin is cancelled! – But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. Jesus died and rose for our sins, so if you are in Him, there is no sin – your sin died with Him. This should give us the desire to be holy and pure in our daily lives. Sins we know we commit as believers is inharmonious with Christ’s purpose and living Christ-like. Purity should be the priority in our lives because known sin in the life of a believer is a contradiction.

If you abide in Jesus, sin should not be an option for you. Light has no relationship with darkness, the same as true fellowship with Jesus has no place with your sins. One is the absence of the other. If you are a Christian in close fellowship with Jesus, you want sin out of your life. It is a contradiction to claim fellowship with God and to sin continuously without confession and repentance.

John calls us to abstinence from sin, but he also reminds us that our Saviour came into this world to take sin away.

Let us walk and abide in Jesus, free from sin and experiencing complete joy!
