Baptise in the Spirit

Daily Prayer – 13 June

Good morning, Heavenly Father! Thank You for a new day. Thank You that Your compassion is renewed every morning and never fails. Great is Your faithfulness and Your steadfast love, O Lord! I don’t know what all is going to happen today, and how much I’ll get done, but You do. So I give this day to You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, Father. Energise me for Your work, because You know how tired these bones are. Awaken me to the wonder of Your salvation, and quicken my spirit to the reality of Your work in my life. Lord, my mind is filled with creative ideas, but they’re all jumbled. Holy Spirit, come and hover over my mind like You hovered over the waters at creation and speak order out of the chaos! Help me to cease striving and to trust that You will give me all I need today to do the work You’ve given me to do. You will be faithful to complete the good work You’ve started, and as I step out into my day, I declare Your sovereignty over every area of my life. I entrust myself to You and ask that You use me however You see fit. This day is Yours. My body is Yours. My mind is Yours. Everything I am is Yours. May You be pleased with me today. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Help us use the truth as a lighthouse that guides us safely into the harbour. And grace as an outreached hand to the weary. The Vine and the Branches

John 15:1-14

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.

What a wise and a widely celebrated analogy from Christ: the vine and the branches. He is the “I Am”. Jesus uses this metaphor to explain how our spiritual life, as born-again believers, is drawn from His life. God’s plan for our lives is to progress from barrenness to fruitfulness, to spiritual abundance. Also very important here is that Jesus also repeats His command for believers to love each other. What a joy to know that if we keep this command, we are friends of Jesus! Wow!

Jesus refers to abiding in Him, referring to those who are truly connected to the True Vine, and who bear Spiritual fruit as a result (John 15:1–6).

At the same time, Jesus refers to those in whom His words abide. That is the same deeply rooted, intimate, life-giving relationship as between the vine and branches. We need the same dependency and closeness with Jesus. He clearly connects fulfilled prayer to the will of God the Father. When a person’s prayer is wholly, entirely aligned with the Word and the will of God, that person is legitimately praying in the name of Christ.

What we must remember is this analogy is not a license for believers to treat God like a magic genie or a vending machine, expecting Him to give you everything you desire. No! Bearing Spiritual fruit only comes when we abide in the power of Christ, and answered prayer only happens when what we pray for is part of God’s will.

I am a friend of Jesus. Are you?

Jesus comforts – “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. John 14:1

Jesus can bring you back from the shallow and into the deep where deeper connections and relationships are formed.

Tell me somethin’, girl
Are you happy in this modern world?
Or do you need more?
Is there somethin’ else you’re searchin’ for?

I’m falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longin’ for change
And in the bad times I fear myself

Tell me something, boy
Aren’t you tired tryin’ to fill that void?
Or do you need more?
Ain’t it hard keeping it so hardcore?

I’m falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longing for a change
And in the bad times I fear myself

I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now

In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
We’re far from the shallow now

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Whoah I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now

In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
We’re far from the shallow
