Many live life feeling stuck. We fall into routine, sadness and even depression. Sometimes we never talk to anyone about it and that consumes your thoughts and your life. I want to encourage you to use this feeling of being stuck in your favour. You can grow and know more of what God has for your life. Walk with Christ to discover the root of the problem.
There have been situations and there are currently situations in my life where I have asked myself: Now what? What’s next? Where am I going? What else could go wrong?
I know Jesus and in knowing Him I have the most beautiful and exciting thing that can happen to me in my life. Knowing that I am forgiven of my sins is priceless. Knowing that Jesus died for me on a cross so that I may have eternal life is the most valuable treasure I will ever have. However, there comes times when even in my faith, in my walk with God, even in loving Him, I feel stuck and I wonder: Why do I feel this way?
I get to a point where my glass has become so full that I no longer have room to receive anything more and yet more and more keeps been poured in! This is painful and strange because I don’t understand why I feel this way while being in a relationship with God. Am I being over-stimulated, under-stimulated, depressed or it is all too much too juggle.
Today, I want to ask this question: Could it be that God is calling me to something? Something else?
Trials and Temptations
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4
In my life, I have learned that silences and trials are opportunities to draw much closer to God and grow spiritually. Many times silence, doubt and uncertainty is the arrow that directs and pushes me towards the next step to achieve my purpose. This feeling of being stuck can become the stepping stone that will take me to the next level of my faith.
God says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
God often speaks to us in our silences, in the silences we have with Him in our secret place, our secret time.
Jesus came for us all
I know that Jesus didn’t come to die only for me, but for everyone, Jew and Gentile alike. He came to save everyone who trusts in Him. However, many of us, including me, after being saved and receiving eternal life, remain living a comfortable Christian life without risks.
What if I told you that where you will feel God’s presence the most will be when you enter a burning furnace, or when you are locked in a pit with lions?
Many times I live feeling far from God because I forget that the greatest purpose that God gave me was to go and make disciples of all men, to be light, to serve and to help everyone who is in front of me.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:27-28
The moment I stop being witness of Jesus, the moment I stop shining, preaching and making disciples, I will enter a life of feeling stuck. In the Kingdom of God, the more I give, the more I receive. For a long time I thought that the job of preaching and making disciples was simply for pastors and church leaders, but God calls all of us—The Church—to make disciples and be witnesses.
The fast growing church
One of the facts that most interests me is how the early Church grew so quickly and effectively. It all started with twelve disciples. Later, we see on the day of Pentecost, in Acts 2, 120 people waiting for the promise of the Holy Spirit. On that same day 3,000 people were converted to Jesus. Then in AD 100, the Church is estimated to have 25,000 people. By 350 AD it is estimated that the Church had already reached 30 million followers. All this without Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or TikTok! (These platforms have distorted the Gospel message, a topic for another day).
How did the Church grow so fast?
The first disciples saw it as an obligation, devotion and a calling to make other disciples, and not just treat it as an option. Jesus left the Church to do much more than meet in a temple or building once a week. The Church is there to be the light, to shine in the darkness, to give hope and not remain silent. I believe that where we most experience God’s love and faithfulness is when we are obedient to His Word and we are light to all those who need Jesus.
41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
The Fellowship of the Believers
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2: 41-42
It is better to give than receive. There is nothing more beautiful than being an agent of light and bringing hope to a world that lives in anxiety, depression, and fear. When we read the story of Jesus in the Bible, we don’t see a single day in which He wasn’t light, or didn’t bring healing, hope, and salvation. As Christians, the world needs us now more than ever.
How can I preach about Jesus?
I must be light? I must make disciples? Is it possible for me to preach about Jesus? One way, is through this blog. But that feels too easy, too simple and not what Jesus truly demands of me.
One of the biggest barriers we face when talking to someone about Jesus is the fear of rejection. Ponder on how you came to read this blog. Think about how you met Jesus. Someone, at some point, dared to get out of their comfort zone, to lose their fear and talk to you about God. Hmm. Food For thought isn’t it? I have been in work meetings and I have openly spoken of my Christian faith – God could easily use those moments to plant a seed in someone’s mind.
Many times I have felt the Holy Spirit was pushing me to speak about Jesus, about His Kingdom and about His forgiveness. Sometimes I get scared because I think I must preach a whole sermon to others and make them repent for it all to be worth it. Many times all a person needs is someone to tell them to keep going and to not give up. Or they just need someone to be there for them and ask how they are. At that moment, the Holy Spirit will provide the right and necessary words for that person.
32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. Matthew 10: 32-33
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
The Holy Spirit
Who is the Holy Spirit? I want to introduce you to a friend who will change your life forever. A friend who will fill all emptiness. A friend who will cure all depression and anxiety, and who will remove all fear from the roots and make you stronger than you can imagine. The best of all is that He longs to meet you and be your best friend. His name is the Holy Spirit. He is the one who is here on earth with us. He is the one who reveals to us the heart of God and who will make you fall more in love with Jesus.
When Jesus was resurrected, He would return to heaven after a few days. The disciples were confused and discouraged because they would be left alone, but they didn’t know that Jesus was about to introduce them to a new Comforter. This Comforter would not come in the form of flesh and blood, but in the form of Spirit so that He could dwell in each of the hearts that yearned for Him. Think about this for a minute: the same Spirit that dwells in the Creator of the universe LIVES IN YOU.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
You probably know and have the theoretical knowledge of who the Holy Spirit is, but do you know Him personally? Is your life being totally guided by Him? If I am honest, I ask for His guidance less than I should. But, He openly gives His guidance without me even asking for it.
Why am I talking to you about the Holy Spirit? Because He is the one who removes me from the feeling of being stuck. He is the one who reveals to me the depths of God, and above all else, He is the one who gives me the POWER to be witnesses of the light of the beautiful news of the Gospel.
The Holy Spirit is waiting to start a friendship with you today.
But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
